Anambra State Head of Service, Barr. Ngozi Anuli Iwouno, has directed Directors, Deputy Directors, and Heads of Departments and Units to enforce strict work ethics across all MDAs, warning that lateness, absenteeism, and low productivity will no longer be tolerated. She noted improved attendance but said more work remains.
Barri. Iwouno who issued the directive yesterday during a meeting with senior management staff at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat, Awka, stressed that as key drivers of policy implementation, their conduct sets the tone for their offices. “You cannot demand discipline from subordinates if it is not reflected in your own conduct”.
Citing the Public Service Rules 2021, the HOS listed punctuality, diligence, integrity, accountability, and loyalty as non-negotiable principles. She acknowledged economic hardship affecting morale but insisted the Civil Service must not fail. “Visible commitment to duty strengthens the case for enhanced welfare,” she added.
She urged strict compliance with official hours, daily attendance monitoring, consistent application of service rules, staff sensitization, and proper disciplinary procedures through queries and escalation to Permanent Secretaries.
Barri. Iwouno commended officers for sustaining government operations amid challenges but said credibility requires efficiency and discipline. The meeting supports ongoing reforms by the Soludo administration to reposition the state civil service.
Present were Mrs. Nkiru Jessie Nwankwo, Permanent Secretary, Office of the HOS; Dr. Obiageli Uchebo, PS, Ministry of Health; and Engr. Martin Agbili, PS, Ministry of Works.
