The Anambra State Government has reassured its dedication to discovering young talents and building a sustainable sports economy across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state. The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, gave the assurance on Aug. 16, during the grand finale of the Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Chairman/NFF President U-13, U-15, and U-17 Soccer Championship, held in Aguluzoigbo, Anaocha Local Government Area.
Delivering warm sporting greetings on behalf of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, Hon. Agha Mba emphasized that the administration’s focus extends beyond simple interest in sports to concrete investments in grassroots development. He noted that the initiative directly aligns with the governor’s “People’s Manifesto” to strengthen grassroots athletics, nurture raw talent, and cultivate a vibrant sports ecosystem across Anambra.
Speaking at the event, the Sports Commissioner highlighted that while the tournament has concluded, it marks the beginning of great careers for many promising young athletes. ”Today may mark the end of this competition, but for many of these young boys, it is only the beginning,” Agha Mba said. “The next Kanu Nwankwo, Jay-Jay Okocha, Mikel Obi, Cristiano Ronaldo, or Lionel Messi may well be discovered right here.”
The commissioner commended the leadership of the Anambra State Football Association and the dedicated coaches for their commitment to youth development. He also called on other sports associations across the state to reactivate their programs and provide platforms for young talent to excel.
Highlighting recent achievements in the state’s sports sector, Agha Mba referenced the Anambra Taekwondo team, which he received last Friday after they emerged overall champions at a national tournament in Lagos for the third consecutive year.
To further boost local sports infrastructure, the Commissioner praised Governor Soludo for delivering a world-class stadium in Ekwulobia City, which is set to be commissioned soon to host future state, national, and international competitions.
Reaffirming the state government’s backing through the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, Agha Mba assured that Anambra’s talented youths will continue to receive the necessary support to prepare them for global success.
