The Anambra State Ministry of Transport has inaugurated its Monitoring and Enforcement Team following a comprehensive orientation programme designed to promote accountability, transparency, and efficiency in the state’s transport sector.
During a briefing held on June 23, at the Jerome Udoji Secretariat Complex, Awka, ministry officials unveiled a Code of Conduct to regulate the team’s operations.
Members were directed to uphold professional standards by maintaining proper dress code, carrying official identification cards at all times, and engaging transport stakeholders and the public with courtesy and respect.
The Code of Conduct explicitly prohibits bribery, inducement, intimidation, harassment, unauthorized fee collection, bias, discrimination, and any form of conflict of interest.
The team was also mandated to submit accurate reports, properly document findings, safeguard confidential information, and channel reports on revenue leakages, illegal collections, and fraudulent practices through designated official procedures.
Officials further emphasized strict compliance with government policies and lawful directives, as well as the need for effective collaboration with relevant security agencies where operational demands require.
Speaking at the inauguration, the Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Edward Ibuzo, charged the team to discharge their duties with integrity, resist all forms of corruption, and ensure fairness, professionalism, and respect for citizens in the course of their assignment.
The ministry stated that the initiative is part of ongoing reforms aimed at sanitizing the transport sector and eliminating sharp practices that undermine government revenue and public trust.
