The Anambra State Government has disassociated itself from the purported Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU) election held on October 17, clarifying that the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs neither approved nor participated in the exercise.
The government’s position was contained in an official letter dated October 19, addressed to the traditional ruler of Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area, HRH Igwe Michael Chidozie Okekeuche.
The letter, signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nwabufo Nwankwo, on behalf of the commissioner, was issued in response to an earlier correspondence from the traditional ruler dated October 16, requesting government intervention to halt the purported election.

In the letter, referenced MLGCCA/CM/010/T.2/188, the ministry categorically stated that it had neither authorised the election nor taken part in its conduct, thereby distancing the state government from the process.
Consequently, the ministry urged the traditional ruler to take necessary steps to maintain peace and order in the community and prevent any development that could lead to a breakdown of law and order.
The government also advised the community to remain calm and exercise restraint while awaiting further directives from the state government regarding the matter.
The intervention comes amid concerns over the purported EBU election and its potential implications for peace and unity in Enugwu-Agidi.
The ministry stressed the importance of avoiding actions that could heighten tensions or trigger a crisis, urging all stakeholders to conduct themselves peacefully as the government considers the issues surrounding the election.
The development reinforces the state government’s call for calm and restraint among community stakeholders pending further directives on the leadership and electoral matters concerning the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union.
