The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has intensified efforts aimed at protecting children, combating trafficking, and strengthening child welfare systems in line with the ideals of International Missing Children’s Day.
One of the major initiatives of the Anambra State Government is the strengthening of child protection and alternative care systems through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare. Recently, the state inaugurated a Technical Working Group on Alternative Care for Children in collaboration with child protection organisations and SOS Children’s Villages to improve policies relating to child safety and welfare.
The government also adopted guidelines designed to ensure safer care arrangements for vulnerable children. The measures include compulsory training for caregivers, background checks, improved monitoring systems, and stricter adoption procedures aimed at preventing abuse, trafficking, and the disappearance of children.
In efforts to tackle child trafficking and abduction, the state government has continued to support security operations involving the police and other law enforcement agencies. Security operatives in the state recently rescued missing children and dismantled trafficking networks operating within and outside Anambra State.
In one of the operations, police rescued two children who had reportedly been missing for nine months following an intensive nationwide investigation.
Similarly, security agencies uncovered an interstate child trafficking syndicate in Anambra and rescued eleven trafficked children. The operation also exposed illegal child adoption activities, further reinforcing the state government’s commitment to protecting children from exploitation.
The Soludo administration has equally intensified actions against child begging and unsafe environments where vulnerable children may be exposed to trafficking or exploitation.
As part of broader security and child protection measures, the government announced plans to seal premises harbouring child beggars.
Beyond security interventions, the government continues to promote awareness on child rights, welfare, and protection through partnerships with civil society organisations, child protection networks, and community stakeholders.
These efforts align with the message of International Missing Children’s Day, which emphasises vigilance, prevention, and collective responsibility in safeguarding children.
As the day is observed globally, the actions of the Anambra State Government reflect growing recognition of the need to protect children, strengthen family and community support systems, and ensure that every case involving a missing child receives urgent attention.
