Anambra State Government, has sealed Madonna Mercy Maternity and Clinic, Ndiakwu Anozie, Uruagu Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area.
In an interview on the exercise, the State Commissioner for Health , Dr. Afam Obidike said that the sealing which was done on Tuesday, July 22 was based on several reasons which ranged from operating illegally since 2018, working with unqualified personnel and existing in a dirty and unacceptable building/environment.
Dr. Obidike added that a team of the Anambra State Health Facility Accreditation and Monitoring Unit, of the Ministry is moving round the state to make sure that hospitals and other health facilities are complying with standard regulations of operation vis-a-vis the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo vision on health matters for the people of the state.
The Acting Director, Medical Services, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ugochukwu Chukwulobelu, corroborated the commissioner, he said that the facility was sealed after a detailed inspection carried out on it by the inspection team.
“During the inspection, several serious violations were observed which included the inability of the maternity to renew its operational license since 2018 till date, the environment and building are unhygienic and unsuitable for delivering any form of maternal care.
“For these, the government had to immediately seal the facility in order to save people’s life. This measure is part of a broader effort to sanitize the health sector and ensure that health facilities meet the minimum required standards in Anambra State.
“The enforcement fully aligns with the health reforms vision of the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, who has made it clear that Ndi Anambra deserve only a safe professional and people-centred health system.”
