‎The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to free education, warning teachers and school authorities against the illegal collection of fees in government‑owned schools across the state.
‎
‎The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, issued the warning during an audience‑participation radio programme, ‘Ask the Commissioner’, on Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS). He stated that any teacher found demanding or collecting unauthorized fees from pupils would face strict disciplinary action.
‎
‎Dr. Mefor explained that the policy of the Chukwuma Soludo administration is designed to ensure that every child in Anambra State has access to quality and affordable education, without imposing unnecessary financial burdens on parents and guardians. The government described free education as one of the key pillars of the Soludo administration’s human capital development agenda.
‎
‎The state government urged school authorities to strictly adhere to official directives on school charges and called on parents and guardians to report any incident of illegal fee collection to the appropriate authorities. It stressed that transparency and accountability in the education sector remain top priorities.
‎
‎Observers have welcomed the move, noting that it will help strengthen public confidence in the state’s education reforms and improve access to learning opportunities for children across Anambra.
