Anambra State Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has commended residents and traders in Dunukofia LGA for responding early to government directives ahead of the statewide environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for July 4.
During an unannounced visit to Ifitedunu Park on June 3, Dr. Aguiyi observed traders already engaged in sanitation activities. He described the level of compliance as a positive sign of increased environmental awareness and civic responsibility among the people.
The commissioner also praised the Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Hon. Chijioke Ozumba, for his leadership in ensuring the council aligned quickly with the state’s environmental emergency directive. He noted that such proactive steps boost efforts to achieve a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Anambra.
Dr. Aguiyi stressed that the sanitation exercise is not limited to one day. He said it forms part of a long-term campaign focused on responsible waste disposal, environmental discipline, and flood prevention across the state. He urged citizens to keep drainage channels clear and support government initiatives for a safe, livable environment.
The commissioner later visited the Dunukofia Local Government Secretariat, where he lauded the chairman for ongoing mobilisation and enforcement. He added that similar positive compliance reports had been received from Awka South and Onitsha LGAs, calling the statewide response encouraging.
In his response, Hon. Ozumba thanked Dr. Aguiyi for the visit and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to maintaining the momentum in support of Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for a clean, green, and healthy Anambra State.
