The Mayor of Anambra East Local Government Area, Hon. Sir Ifeanyi Chinweze, has reaffirmed his administration’s focus on rigorous oversight of critical infrastructure projects to ensure durability, safety, and maximum benefit for residents.
Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing retaining wall construction along the erosion-damaged section of Otuocha Oye-Agu Road near the First Bank axis in Otuocha, Hon. Chinweze said the area had recently posed serious safety risks due to severe erosion that rendered the road almost impassable for motorists and pedestrians.
As an immediate response, the administration implemented temporary palliative measures to restore access and improve mobility while a more permanent solution was developed. The current retaining wall, he noted, is a long-term intervention aimed at preventing further soil erosion and averting a potential road collapse.
He explained that such structures play a vital role in stabilizing soil, controlling water runoff, and safeguarding roads in erosion-prone areas like Anambra East. The project, he added, is expected to enhance road longevity and improve safety for all users.
Describing the initiative as a demonstration of proactive and sustainable governance, Hon. Chinweze stressed that addressing residents’ pressing concerns and restoring confidence in local government remain key priorities of his administration.
