The Anambra State Government has on Sept 28 commenced the registration and data capture of sports practitioners across the state as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots sports development.
The Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, is monitoring the exercise, while ministry officials have visited registration centres in Aguata, Awka South, Dunukofia and Onitsha North Local Government Areas.
The exercise is aimed at documenting sports instructors, officers and administrators and preparing them for subsequent retraining and certification.

Participants can also obtain the Anambra State Identification Number (ASIN) during the registration exercise, which the state government requires residents to have.
Registration is scheduled to end on Sept. 30, after which registered practitioners will proceed to the training and certification phase.

The training will focus on areas including sports administration, coaching, safety, safeguarding, anti-doping and other relevant technical skills, in line with the ministry’s plan to improve standards in grassroots sports.
The commissioner said the initiative was part of efforts to build a stronger sports ecosystem in Anambra by ensuring that practitioners are properly documented, trained and certified.
The monitoring exercise by the commissioner and visits by ministry officials are expected to support accurate data capture and ensure wider participation by sports practitioners across the state.
