The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC), at its 10th meeting under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second term, approved key decisions to strengthen governance, economic development and environmental sustainability.
The meeting, held on August 24, at the Light House, Awka, reviewed major development projects and approved a regulatory framework for cooperatives across the state.
A major highlight was the announcement that Anambra’s 35th anniversary, scheduled for Thursday, August 27, will focus on environmental sustainability under the theme, “Our Environment, Our Future.”
According to the Council, activities will promote efforts towards achieving a cleaner, greener Anambra while encouraging residents to embrace environmental responsibility and support sustainable practices across communities.
The anniversary programme will feature a tree-planting campaign and media campaign designed to raise public awareness on environmental protection, sustainability and responsible citizenship throughout the state.
ANSEC also approved a regulatory framework for cooperatives, establishing operational standards to promote viability, stability and protection of members’ investments, while strengthening COFAS.
The Council further reviewed the economics of the proposed Anambra Aerotropolis, envisioned as an export-oriented economic gateway to eastern Nigeria, with AMIC and an entertainment hub as key components.
ANSEC also reviewed the regeneration and modernisation of Onitsha Main Market, expressing satisfaction with progress and noting that the project remains on course for delivery as planned.
The Council said the market regeneration would serve as a model for similar projects, while stressing responsible use of public power and reaffirming the administration’s commitment to sustainable development.
