The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a resolution, urging Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Managing Director of the Anambra State Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA) to undertake urgent palliative repairs/full rehabilitation of the failed portions of Awka-Etiti–Onusougu–Iseke Road and Nnewi LASAL Road–Ukpor Road.
The resolution followed a motion sponsored by the Minority Leader, Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, and seconded by Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu, representing Nnewi South I Constituency, during plenary.
Presiding over the session, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somotochukwu Udeze read the resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the House through a voice vote.
Moving the motion, Hon. Akaegbobi stressed that a functional road network is vital for safe, smooth, and efficient transportation, noting that consistent maintenance is critical to sustaining durable and user-friendly roads across the state.
The lawmaker decried the deplorable state of the affected road sections, describing them as a nightmare for motorists and commuters who ply the routes daily. According to him, the deteriorated portions have resulted in persistent traffic congestion, frequent road accidents, and rising cases of vehicle damage, forcing many road users to make unplanned visits to mechanic workshops.
He maintained that immediate intervention through palliative measures or comprehensive rehabilitation would restore free flow of traffic, reduce accidents, and alleviate the hardship currently faced by residents and commuters.
The motion received overwhelming support from members, including Hon. Golden Iloh (Ihiala II), Hon. Chidiebele Ibemeka (Njikoka I), Hon. Noble Igwe (Ogbaru I), and Hon. Emma Nwafor (Orumba South), among others, who underscored the urgent need for government action to safeguard lives and boost economic activities along the affected corridors.
