The Anambra State House of Assembly on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026 confirmed Barrister Chijioke Ojukwu as Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development alongside 17 other commissioner nominees presented by Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
The confirmation followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Screening by the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chukwuma Okoye, representing Awka South Constituency I, before members of the 8th Assembly.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, while reading the governor’s request for confirmation, said the exercise was in line with Section 192 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.
Udeze recalled that the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN), alongside the Commissioner for Finance, had earlier been confirmed on April 24, while the remaining nominees were screened on May 7 and 8.
According to the Speaker, the screening exercise was aimed at assessing the educational qualifications, competence and suitability of the nominees for their respective portfolios.
The Speaker commended the nominees for their performances during the screening and urged them to see their appointments as a call to service.
“Leadership is a responsibility. This government is for the people, therefore you must remain accessible to the people and avoid unnecessary bureaucracy that delays processes,” Udeze said.
He further urged the commissioners to work collectively to ensure the success of the Soludo administration and the development of Anambra State.
Responding on behalf of the commissioners, Dr. Law Mefor thanked the governor and the lawmakers for the confidence reposed in them, assuring that they would justify the trust by working diligently to move the state forward.
