The Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr Patrick Agha Mba, has described the newly commissioned football stadium in Oraeri, Aguata Local Government Area, as an investment in grassroots sports and youth development.
Agha Mba said this on Oct. 2, during the commissioning of the facility constructed by Aguata Local Government Council, commending the Mayor, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, for prioritising youth development and grassroots sports infrastructure.

He said the project demonstrated the importance of local government investment in sports and human capital development, noting that sports remained part of the state’s development agenda.
According to him, the administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo has positioned sports as a tool for youth development, talent discovery, healthy living, job creation and economic empowerment.

Agha Mba said the state government was taking sports development to communities, villages and schools to identify talents, stressing the need to create opportunities for young people to develop their abilities.
“Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not always everywhere.

Today, Aguata is creating that opportunity,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that the ministry had commenced the registration, capacity building and certification of sports practitioners across the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
He urged sports practitioners to participate fully in the programme, saying proper registration and capacity building would strengthen sports development at the grassroots.
Agha Mba also urged youths to protect the facility and use it responsibly, expressing optimism that the stadium would support talent discovery and development.
He commended the state government and local government councils for supporting grassroots sports and youth development across the state.
