The Anambra State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Patrick Agha Mba, has commissioned the Chief of Naval Staff Multipurpose Outdoor Sports Arena at Eziowelle Civic Centre in Anambra State.
The facility, equipped with restrooms and changing rooms, was commissioned on August 25 with residents, military personnel, traditional leaders and other stakeholders attending the colourful and memorable ceremony there.
Agha Mba described the arena as a shining example of Public-Private-Community Partnership, stressing that development required collective responsibility and contributions beyond government resources across Anambra State for meaningful sustainable development.
He said that the project aligns with the Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo’s administration’s commitment to developing the sports ecosystem, building capacity, discovering talents and providing opportunities for young people statewide and beyond.
The commissioner urged Ndi Anambra at home and abroad to embrace the “Think Home Philosophy” by contributing ideas, expertise and valuable resources and initiatives toward sustainable development across the state.
The commissioner said that sports remained important for youth engagement, talent discovery, healthy living and unity, noting that the arena would provide opportunities for young people to train and compete locally.
He commended the Nigerian Navy and Chief of Naval Staff for the Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, while urging the Eziowelle community to protect and maintain the facility for posterity effectively.
Highlight of the event was the presentation of a three-star Vice Admiral Abbas Nigerian Navy memorabilia award to Gov Soludo for exemplary leadership, received on his behalf by Agha Mba.
