The President General of Nawfia Community, Chief Daniel Okoye, has passionately appealed to the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Hon. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, to urgently rebuild and modernize the popular Afor Nawfia Market to meet international and interstate standards capable of attracting businessmen and investors from different parts of the country.
“We are pleading with Hon. Barr. Chinedu Ononiba and the Njikoka Local Government to help us rebuild Afor Nawfia Market into a modern standard market.
“Eke Awka was once a market that operated mainly on Eke day, but today it is a daily market where business activities go on consistently every day. Old men, young women and businessmen now come there daily because of the level of development and organization.”

He explained that the Nawfia community already has plans to organize the market into different sections after reconstruction to make trading easier and more attractive to investors.
“What we want is a properly planned market with provision lines, food items sections, electronics lines, household wares sections and building materials sections. That is what makes a market truly functional and attractive. We want businessmen from different states to come and invest here. We cannot continue living in the old ways when the world is moving forward.”
The President General stressed that rebuilding the market would not only improve the economy of Nawfia but also create employment opportunities for youths and women in the area.
“We want to bring the future into the present. A modern market will increase commerce, create jobs and open Nawfia to greater development,” he said.
The Nawfia Market Chairman, Mr Ugochukwu Udeh described the project as a major step toward economic growth in the community, emphasizing that poor infrastructure has limited business activities in the area. “If the government rebuilds this market, many traders from neighboring communities will come here. It will help our businesses grow and improve the lives of families,” he noted.
Another resident, Mrs Helen Nwoye emphasized that Nawfia has the potential to become a strong commercial center in Anambra State if the market is properly developed, saying, “Nawfia is strategically located. With modern structures and proper planning, Afor Market can compete with major markets in the state.”
Residents expressed optimism that the Chairman of Njikoka Local Government would listen to the plea of the community and partner with stakeholders to transform Afor Nawfia Market into a modern commercial hub for economic development.
