Anambra State House of Assembly aspirant for Onitsha South I Constituency, Chief (Hon.) Paschal Uche Adilieje, popularly known as Ubom Power, has outlined his grassroots-driven approach to youth empowerment and community development, anchored on his “Area Boy Connect” initiative.
Speaking in an interview, Adilieje said his political ambition is rooted in years of engagement with traders, youths, and informal workers across Onitsha South, noting that his approach focuses on practical solutions rather than campaign promises.
“I am not coming from outside to tell people what they need. I have lived among them, worked with them, and understand their daily realities. That is why my focus is on real empowerment.”
According to him, the “Area Boy Connect” programme has evolved into a platform for skills development, mentorship, and economic support for young people, including commercial riders, market workers, and small-scale traders.
“This initiative is about creating opportunities. We are helping young people move from survival to stability by equipping them with skills and connecting them to real sources of income.”
He added that, if elected, he would scale the initiative through legislative backing to expand its reach and sustainability.
“My goal is to take what we are already doing at the grassroots and institutionalise it. That way, more people can benefit in a structured and lasting way,” he said.
On his legislative priorities, Adilieje identified youth empowerment, improved market infrastructure, and community security as key focus areas.
“Our markets need better facilities and policies that support traders. Our streets must be safer, and our youths must be engaged productively,” he noted.
He also emphasized collaboration with women groups and community organisations, stressing that inclusive participation is essential for sustainable development.
“Development must involve everyone—youths, women, and community leaders. That is how we build a system that works for all,” he said.
Adilieje further pledged transparency and accountability, stating that representation must deliver measurable outcomes.
“People want to see results, not just hear promises. Leadership must be accountable and responsive to the needs of the people,” he added.
Political observers say his emphasis on grassroots engagement reflects a growing trend among aspirants seeking to build support through direct community impact as the primaries approach.
