The Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) is intensifying efforts to promote orderly urban development, improve infrastructure and protect the environment as Anambra State pursues its vision of a modern, clean and liveable capital city.

Led by its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ossy Onuko, ACTDA is responsible for development control and the promotion of coordinated urban growth across the capital territory.

Through development control measures, protection of access roads and urban renewal initiatives, the Authority is working to ensure compliance with approved building plans, safeguard public spaces and encourage development that supports residents’ safety, mobility and economic activities.

Its interventions against illegal structures and obstructions on access roads highlight the importance of effective urban planning in addressing challenges such as traffic congestion, flooding and safety risks.

Beyond enforcing regulations, these measures are intended to create functional neighbourhoods, improve access to properties and businesses, and ensure that public spaces remain available for their intended purposes.

Speaking on the Authority’s mandate, Dr. Onuko reaffirmed ACTDA’s commitment to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of building a modern and well organised capital city that residents and visitors can take pride in.

He emphasised that achieving this goal requires the cooperation of residents, property owners, developers and other stakeholders through compliance with physical planning regulations and respect for public infrastructure.

As Awka continues to grow, effective development control remains essential to ensuring that expansion is orderly, infrastructure is protected and environmental sustainability is prioritised.

The authority’s efforts form part of the broader vision of creating a capital city that supports economic activity, improves residents’ quality of life and reflects Anambra State’s development aspirations.
