As the 2027 general elections draw closer, non-indigenous residents in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have thrown their weight behind the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) aspirant, Hon. Afam Uzoegwu, endorsing him as their preferred candidate for the State House of Assembly.
Speaking in an interview with our correspondent, the spokesperson of the non-indigenous community in the area, Nze Nweke Nweke, said that the decision followed extensive consultations among various groups, cutting across ethnic, religious, and regional lines.
According to him, the endorsement reflects a rare consensus among non-indigenes, including town unions, market leaders, and other stakeholders, all of whom have resolved to work towards ensuring Uzoegwu’s victory at the polls.
“After a careful review of the profiles, track records, and political strengths of all aspirants across different parties, we unanimously settled for Hon. Afam Uzoegwu,” Nweke said.
He described Uzoegwu as a seasoned politician, former councillor representing Nkpor Ward 2, and a respected community leader with a strong record of inclusiveness and grassroots engagement.
“His relationship with non-indigenes is exceptional. Beyond that, he possesses the political capacity and widespread acceptance needed to defeat candidates from other political parties in the general election,” he added.
Nweke further noted that Uzoegwu’s contributions to Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Idemili North, particularly in Nkpor, have earned him the goodwill of the state government and key stakeholders.
In what he described as a historic move, Nweke said that non-indigenes in the area are, for the first time, actively backing and sponsoring a candidate for the State Assembly, citing Uzoegwu’s credibility and performance as the driving factors.
He also hinted at growing support from influential political actors within the constituency, positioning Uzoegwu as the aspirant with the broadest appeal ahead of the elections.
“As 2027 approaches, while others may be strategizing, Hon. Uzoegwu is already enjoying overwhelming grassroots support that will translate into victory,” Nweke concluded.
