As part of activities to commemorate the 2026 International Women’s Day, market women at Eke Ekwulobia market in Aguata Local Government Area (LGA) have received free medical care to improve their health.

The health team led by the Mayor of Aguata, Dr. Chibueze Ofobuike, offered free medical checks and consultations while promoting the importance of healthy living among the traders and residents.

In addition to the healthcare support, no fewer than 50 women engaged in petty trading also received business grants of N50,000 each.

The financial assistance is intended to help beneficiaries expand their small businesses and improve their livelihoods.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Oforbuike emphasized that empowering women at the grassroots remains a priority for his administration.

He said that supporting women in both healthcare and economic development is key to building stronger families and communities.

The initiative also reinforced the popular agelong slogan that “health is wealth”, encouraging women to prioritize their wellbeing while continuing to contribute to local economic growth.

With the combine efforts in healthcare and business empowerment, the Mayor reaffirms his commitment to touching lives at the grassroots and sustaining initiatives that provide hope and opportunity for women across Aguata LGA.

The program concluded with a renewed call for continued support for women highlighting a focus on practical interventions that directly impact lives.
