A total of 1,153 graduates of the Faculty of Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, have been inducted as members of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
The graduates took the professional oath at the 13th induction and oath taking ceremony of the faculty on Oct. 30.
In her welcome address, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Ebele Okigbo, urged the inductees to uphold excellence, integrity and compassion in their teaching practice and contribute to national development through education.
Okigbo encouraged them to make their professional lives a testament to the enduring value of education.
She also urged them to remain adaptable and continuously improve their professional competencies in response to changing global realities.
Speaking on the theme, “From Classroom to Nation Building: The Role of Professional Teaching in Nigeria’s Development,” the dean said the classroom was not merely a place for transmitting knowledge but a foundation for building the nation’s future.
She commended TRCN for its continued collaboration with the faculty and commitment to regulating, standardising and advancing the teaching profession in Nigeria.
In an address delivered on behalf of the Registrar and Chief Executive of TRCN, Dr Ronke Soyombo, Dr Mary Abah urged the inductees to positively influence their students through effective teaching and uphold the principles of the professional oath.
Similarly, former deans of the faculty, Profs. Ada Sam Omenyi and Vivian Nwogbo, advised the inductees to uphold the values of the university and serve as worthy ambassadors of the institution and the teaching profession.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of awards to Rev. Fr. Hilary Nwajagu, Prof. Ken Oraegbunam and Mrs Ngozi Charles, a school proprietor, who was represented by her husband, Mr Charles.
The ceremony also featured the administration of the professional oath to the inductees.
