The Anambra Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, says under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, tourism has significantly improved in the state. This progress is attributed to the extensive construction and reconstruction of quality roads, installation of streetlights, establishment of robust security systems, and the development of impressive recreational centers such as Solution Fun City. Additionally, a master plan has been initiated for the development of five strategic sites, including Agulu Lake, Anam Beach, Ogbunike Cave, Owelle-Ezukala Cave and Waterfall, and Awka City Park.
During a press briefing held on the occasion of World Tourism Day 2025, themed: “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, at the Jerome Udorji Secretariat Awka, Mr. Onyenji noted that World Tourism Day, initiated by the United Nations, is celebrated every September 27 to highlight the importance of tourism development globally.
He emphasized that tourism now plays a vital role in various sectors around the world. Factors attracting visitors include remarkable heritage sites with unique natural features, exciting entertainment events, and peaceful leisure parks.
“Governor Chukwuma Soludo is making considerable efforts to position Anambra State as a prime tourism destination, as outlined in his manifesto. The newly constructed Traumatic facility at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu Hospital in Amaku is set to boost medical tourism.
“For tourism to thrive, a conducive environment must be created, reflected in our clean and beautiful surroundings, management of transportation hubs, bus stops, and traffic systems. The Igboukwu Museum is currently undergoing refurbishment to transform it into a world-class institution for educational tourism. Key players in sustaining tourism in Anambra State include the creative industry, as tourism encompasses hospitality, entertainment, and the promotion of our cultural values,” he said.
Mr. Onyenji expressed appreciation for the Governor’s wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, for her initiative, “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo,” which promotes not only regenerative agriculture but also organic food across and beyond Anambra State. “Every woman in the local government area is part of this program because good food promotes good health, and we have delicious and exceptional cuisine to share with the world,” he said.
He also mentioned plans for intentionally developing erosion sites into tourist attractions. He urged members of the Diaspora, international business investors, and partners to invest in Anambra State, emphasizing that the government is ready to collaborate with them to enhance the tourism sector.
