As the world celebrates World Health Day, Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing healthcare development through evidence-based policies and strategic investment. The Permanent Secretary, Anambra State Ministry of Health, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo, made this declaration at a press briefing in Awka.
Dr. Uchebo highlighted the state’s achievements in the health sector, including the strengthening of primary healthcare services across all Local Government Areas, expansion of maternal and child health services, and zero records of polio cases due to adherence to immunization programmes. She also noted improvements in disease surveillance systems, early detection, and response to outbreaks, as well as scaled-up interventions for tuberculosis and HIV.
She outlined key priority areas for the state’s healthcare delivery, including expanding Universal Health Coverage, strengthening health system resilience, investing in health workforce development, advancing digital health and innovation, and increasing domestic financing for health.
The government called on stakeholders to prioritize health in policy and funding decisions, support locally-driven solutions, deliver quality care, and promote healthy behaviours.
