‎The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, has emphasized the importance of greater collaboration and contributions from various departments, faculties, and professional bodies towards the rapid development of the university.

‎Prof. Anyaehie made the call on June 18, while receiving members of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB), Anambra State Chapter, who paid him a courtesy visit and presented him with an award in recognition of his contributions to the growth and development of the institution.
‎


‎Responding to requests by the association for increased involvement of professional builders in the university’s construction projects and support for staff development, the Vice-Chancellor stated that such requests align with the vision and policies of his administration.
‎
‎He disclosed that his administration had established a Direct Labour Committee through which several projects have been successfully executed within the university. According to him, the committee has enhanced administrative transparency and increased the participation of in-house professionals in the execution of projects and university affairs.
‎
‎Prof. Anyaehie further highlighted
‎some of the achievements of his administration, including a partnership with an Indian firm under which selected university staff will soon travel to India for specialized training on the operation of newly acquired engineering equipment.
‎
‎Other notable projects undertaken by the university include the development of a digital payment application construction of modern class rooms chairs, the installation of a modern median gate, solar-powered street lighting, a modern parking facility, and several infrastructure projects  which are executed by university staff.
‎
‎Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of NIOB, Anambra State Chapter, Bldr. Ikenna Okpala, explained the critical role of professional builders in the construction industry. He described builders as academically trained and professionally registered specialists responsible for coordinating construction processes, ensuring quality standards, and managing cost considerations at project sites.

‎Bldr. Okpala commended the Vice-Chancellor for the remarkable achievements recorded under his leadership and the numerous development projects initiated across the university.
‎
‎Also speaking, former Chairman of the Association, Bldr. Alex Chukwunwike, stated that the visit was aimed at identifying with the vice-chancellor and appreciating his outstanding achievements. He said that the award was presented in recognition of Prof.  Anyaehie’s immense contributions to the development of the university.
‎
‎Among those present at the event were the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Professor Kevin Okoli; Head, Department of Building, Dr. Dominic Obodoh; Director of Building Maintenance and Construction, Builder Samuel Ojeleke; and the immediate past Chairman of NIOB, Anambra State Chapter, Builder Emma Nweke, among others.
