‎Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, has expanded its postgraduate education system to accommodate flexible online learning, enabling students to pursue their academic programmes without being physically present on campus for every activity.
‎
‎The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie, disclosed this on October 2 in Awka, noting that the traditional physical mode of postgraduate study remains available for students who prefer attending lectures and other academic activities on campus.
‎
He added that the university had embraced online learning as an alternative for students residing far from Awka, including those in other parts of Nigeria and abroad.
‎
‎Anyaehie said through the College of Postgraduate Studies, led by Prof. Emmanuel Chukwudebere Obidimma, eligible students could access lectures, academic resources and other approved activities remotely.
‎
He explained that, subject to the university’s approved procedures, students could also participate remotely in examinations and project, thesis and dissertation defences where applicable.
‎
‎According to him, the digital approach supports various stages of postgraduate studies, including proposal development, supervision, research presentations, corrections and final defence, subject to applicable requirements.
‎
He said the initiative would benefit students in Lagos, Abuja, other Nigerian cities, the United Kingdom, the United States and other locations by reducing the need to travel to Awka for every academic activity.
‎
‎The Vice-Chancellor said the initiative formed part of the university’s wider digital transformation through the Management Information and Communication Technology Unit (MICTU), led by Prof. Ikechukwu Onyenwe.
‎
He noted that the digitisation drive had extended to critical student and academic services, including transcript processing, tuition payment, certificate collection, the UNIZIK Student Portal, artificial intelligence-enabled biometric capturing, proctored examinations and digital clearance for graduating students.
