The traditional ceremonies that precede the Ofala Onitsha proper which is billed for 17 and 18 October has commenced with theme “Njiko na Ntachi”(Unity and Perseverance).

In a press release made available to newsmen by the Chairman, Ofala Strategic Marketing and Communications Subcommittee, Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, it reads in part thus: “These sacred rituals are vital part of Onitsha’s rich cultural heritage.

“The festivities have already commenced with Owuwaji (Yam Festival), kicking off the season of celebration and thanksgiving. Inye Ukwu Na Nlo Eze Onicha (Spiritual Retreat of the Monarch). The monarch’s annual seclusion, where he negotiates the fortunes of the kingdom.

“Ogbalido (Feast of Atonement), a sacred ceremony marking the eve of the monarch’s emergence.”

According to him the stage is set for the grand celebration of Ofala Festival 2025, highlighted by, Iru Ofala (October 17), a day of majesty and splendor, reserved for the monarch and his chiefs.

“Azu Ofala (October 18): a day for the people, when age grades troop out in colorful displays to pay homage to the monarch.

“We are excited to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of Onitsha through the Ofala Festival. This year’s theme, ‘Njiko na Ntachi,’ emphasizes the importance of unity and perseverance in our community,” said Maduegbuna.

“The Ofala Festival is a celebration of our history, our traditions, and our people. We invite everyone to join us and experience the vibrant culture of Onitsha.

“Join us as we come together to celebrate unity, perseverance, and the rich cultural heritage of Onitsha,” he pleaded.
