The Awka and District Society of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), in collaboration with the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), has intensified activities under the 2026 National Tax Awareness Programme across Anambra State.
The programme, themed “Tax Awareness for National Growth: Reform, Compliance and Shared Prosperity,” is aimed at promoting tax reforms, encouraging voluntary compliance, and enhancing public understanding of taxation.
According to the organizers, the campaign seeks to deepen awareness of the importance of taxation among individuals, businesses, and other stakeholders, while fostering a culture of compliance with tax obligations.
Activities commenced on June 24 with a Tax Commemorative Colloquium held at the UNIZIK Business School Conference Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The campaign continued on June 25 with a statewide street sensitisation exercise designed to take tax education directly to residents, traders, and business operators.
In the Onitsha axis, sensitisation teams were engaging communities across Anambra North Senatorial Zone, educating residents, traders, and business owners on their tax responsibilities and the benefits of compliance.
The Nnewi and Ekwulobia axis were covering communities within Anambra South Senatorial Zone, promoting awareness of tax obligations and the role of taxation in sustainable development.
Similarly, the Awka and Ogidi axes are focusing on communities across Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, extending tax education to citizens, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders.
The three day programme will conclude on June 26 with a Thanksgiving Service at the Chapel of Glory, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
