Tansian University, Umunya, has expressed its readiness to partner with the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) to provide affordable and accessible healthcare coverage for its staff and students.
The Acting Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. D.N. Carter Umeoduagu, stated this when the Executive Secretary of ASHIA, Dr Augustine Ezeka, led a delegation from the agency on a sensitisation visit to the institution on Aug. 13.
Umeoduagu described the health insurance scheme as a laudable initiative, saying enrolment of staff and students would provide them with access to quality healthcare while reducing the financial burden associated with medical expenses.
He assured the delegation of the university management’s willingness to key into the scheme and requested ASHIA to provide the necessary documentation to enable the institution to commence discussions with its governing board and facilitate the enrolment process.
Earlier, Ezeka explained the benefits of the state health insurance scheme to the university management, stressing that ASHIA provides enrollees with access to quality healthcare services at affordable rates.
He said several universities in Anambra had already keyed into the scheme, adding that Tansian University could also leverage the initiative to safeguard the health and wellbeing of its staff and students.
Ezeka expressed optimism that the proposed partnership would strengthen access to healthcare within the university community and further expand ASHIA’s coverage across the state.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academics, Prof. Tony Ngonadi; the Registrar; the Bursar and other members of the university management.
