ASUWAHC LAUNCHES STATEWIDE WATER ASSET AUDIT TO STRENGTHEN SERVICE DELIVERY IN ANAMBRA

By Chikaodili Obinwa

The Anambra State Urban Water Asset Holdings Corporation (ASUWAHC) has commenced a comprehensive inventory of water infrastructure across the state as part of renewed efforts to improve efficiency, accountability and service delivery.

The initiative was formally unveiled on June 22 during a management meeting held at the corporation’s headquarters, presiding over by the Officer-in-Charge, Mrs. Emmanuella Okafor.

Discussions at the meeting centered on strengthening asset management systems, enhancing operational performance, ensuring the long term sustainability of water facilities under the agency’s supervision.

As part of the rollout, management introduced a standardized Water Scheme Inventory Form to guide the documentation and assessment of facilities across all water schemes in the state.
The template is designed to capture detailed information on key infrastructure, including boreholes, pumps, generators, treatment plants, storage tanks, solar installations, laboratory equipment, distribution networks, vehicles, and office assets.

Mrs. Okafor stressed the need for accurate and up-to-date records, noting that reliable data remains essential for effective planning, maintenance scheduling, rehabilitation efforts and equitable resource allocation. According to her, the ongoing assessment will give the corporation a clearer picture of the condition and functionality of existing infrastructure, thereby supporting more informed decisions and improved service outcomes.

She explained that the initiative aligns with ASUWAHC’s broader commitment to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources, urging officers involved in the process to carry out their responsibilities with diligence and professionalism to ensure the integrity of the data collected.

The meeting concluded with a directive for all scheme managers and relevant officers to immediately begin the documentation process using the newly introduced form and submit detailed reports within the stipulated timeframe.

Mrs. Okafor added that the findings from the exercise would serve as a strategic reference point for future planning and infrastructure development, strengthening ASUWAHC’s capacity to meet rising demand and deliver safe, affordable and reliable potable water across Anambra State.
