ANAMBRA TO BLACKLIST CONTRACTORS WITH SHODDY JOBS

The Anambra State government has warned that it would blacklist any contractor that poorly executes its project emphasizing the need for quality and timely delivery.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Okey Ezeobi gave this warning today, June 17, during a meeting with contractors handling various road and Infrastructure projects across the state.
Arc. Ezeobi charged all contractors handling various projects in the state to ensure that the projects are completed within the stipulated contract period and in line with the contract’s specification.

He noted that the government will not accept any contract that is below its quality specification, adding that all projects being executed are expected to meet the expectation of the people.
Ezeobi cautioned contractors, “From now henceforth, be realistic with your timing and every instruction for additional works must be backed up with cost implications, how it will affect the initial delivery time and before execution, an approval must be gotten from the governor.
“Do not collude with the engineers sent to site to compromise the quality of works, and for those who subcontracts drainage works, it must meet the standard as agreed. We will require Anambra State Materials Testing Laboratory to confirm the quality of your drainages to ensure they meet with the standards.”
He assured them that there will not be any delays in processing their papers “I run an open door policy, feel free to meet me at any point in time and as the Governor Chukwuma Soludo would always say, “ours is an agenda with a timeline”.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Engr. Martin Agbili reiterated the need to work as a team to achieve Mr. Governor’s vision for Ndi Anambra, re-emphasizing the readiness of the the ministry to work in synergy with the contractors to ensure that their jobs are completed as and when due.
In a vote of thanks, Prince Neville Uchendu, Managing Director of Nevcliton Construction Ltd, said that they are delighted to be in the meeting. He said that all the commissioner said sunked inside their hearts and promised on behalf of the contractors to adhere strictly to all that have been said and that they will work for the betterment of the state.
