Commercial activities have picked up in markets and shops selling educational materials as schools across the state resume for a new academic term, with parents trooping out to purchase learning items for their children.
A visit to Nkpor Main Market revealed a significant increase in the sale of exercise books, textbooks, crayons, mathematical sets, and other learning materials. Traders reported a noticeable uptick in patronage after weeks of low sales during the holiday period.
One of the stationery dealers, Mrs. Nkechi Igbo, expressed delight over the improved sales, noting that business had been slow prior to the resumption of schools.
However, some parents lamented the rising cost of books and other educational materials, stating that the price hike has placed a financial burden on families with multiple school-age children.
Mrs. Amara Ojukwu, a beverage seller, also reported increased sales of provisions as children return to school. She noted that school authorities have directed parents to ensure that all necessary learning materials are provided for a seamless resumption of academic activities.
“My own children are also going back to school, and the school authorities have warned that parents should ensure all required items are made available to them for smooth learning,” Mrs. Ojukwu said.
