SOLUDO’S POLICIES REFLECT IDEALS OF INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY FOR PEACE AND DISARMAMENT

The administration of Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has continued to implement policies and programmes that align with the ideals of International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament through women empowerment, peacebuilding, education, security, and community development initiatives.

The state government has consistently emphasized the critical role of women in promoting peace, stability, and sustainable development across Anambra State.

During the 2026 International Women’s Day celebration, Governor Soludo described women as key drivers of development and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating opportunities for women through economic empowerment, education, and political inclusion.

One of the major areas of focus of the administration is women empowerment through skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes. Through the office of the wife of the governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, thousands of women across the state have benefited from vocational and technical training programmes aimed at promoting self-reliance and reducing poverty.

The beneficiaries were trained in areas such as solar installation, CCTV installation, carpentry, air-conditioner maintenance, and other technical skills traditionally dominated by men.

The Soludo administration has also promoted women’s participation in governance and decision-making by appointing women into strategic positions in government while supporting women-owned businesses through youth empowerment and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) programmes.

In the area of peace and security, the state government has intensified efforts to combat criminality and armed violence through the establishment of security structures and vigilante operations targeted at dismantling criminal camps and restoring peace across communities.

The measures, according to the government, are aimed at discouraging armed crime, improving public safety, and creating a more peaceful environment for residents.

Mrs. Nonye Soludo has also continued to encourage women to serve as ambassadors of peace, moral values, healthy living, and social harmony within their families and communities.

She urged women groups and organizations to use their influence to foster unity, peaceful coexistence, and development at the grassroots level.

Observers noted that the administration’s investment in free education, especially for the girl-child, is also contributing to long-term peacebuilding by empowering women with knowledge, confidence, and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to society.

Although the state government may not have launched a programme specifically dedicated to International Women’s Day for Peace and Disarmament, many of its policies on women empowerment, security improvement, education, and social inclusion reflect the core objectives of the global observance.
