‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Okey Ezeobi, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Governor Chukwuma Soludo administration to transforming the state into a prosperous, livable and smart mega city through the provision of modern road infrastructure.
‎
‎
‎Speaking during an inspection of the ongoing Oko–Ekwulobia Motor Road project and the proposed pedestrian walkway on July 20, Dr. Ezeobi said the project reflects the government’s vision of delivering world-class infrastructure that supports sustainable development.
‎
‎

‎He explained that the Soludo administration is remodelling, renewing and repositioning Anambra through strategic infrastructure projects designed to reduce travel time, improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities and make the state more attractive to investors.
‎
‎
‎According to the commissioner, the project goes beyond road construction, as it incorporates pedestrian walkways, drainage facilities and communication infrastructure to provide complete road networks that promote safer, smarter and more efficient transportation. Dr. Ezeobi disclosed that upon completion of the drainage system, the government would create a three-metre right of way for pedestrian walkways and communication infrastructure instead of the conventional six metres.
‎
‎

‎He noted that the adjustment was necessitated by the already developed nature of the corridor, adding that the reduced space would still adequately accommodate essential public infrastructure while minimising the displacement of affected property owners.
‎
‎
‎The commissioner stated that the inspection was also intended to sensitise residents and ensure that contractors strictly adhere to the approved project design, particularly the construction of pedestrian walkways to improve public safety and accessibility.
‎
‎
‎He observed that many buildings along the corridor were erected within the government’s right of way, contrary to planning regulations that prescribe a setback of about 42 metres from the road. Despite the legal provisions allowing for full enforcement of the right of way, Dr. Ezeobi said the Soludo administration had adopted a humane approach by acquiring only the land required for the project, thereby reducing the impact on affected residents.
‎
‎
‎While acknowledging that some property owners would make sacrifices in the interest of the larger community, he maintained that the project would deliver a safer, more accessible and livable environment while advancing sustainable urban development across the state. He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to provide people-centred, world-class infrastructure that will position Anambra as a preferred destination for investment, commerce and sustainable development.
