Governor Charles Soludo has commissioned a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, marking a major boost to healthcare delivery in Anambra State.
The facility, known as the Samuel Akpua Memorial Complex, comprises St. Ann’s Hospital and a fully equipped maternity ward. It was generously donated by the Akpua family, who are based in the United States, as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare in their hometown.
Following its completion, the hospital has been officially handed over to the Catholic Diocese of Awka through St. Paul Catholic Church, Abba, for management and operation.

The project was executed under the auspices of the Samuel & Josephine Akpua Foundation, led by its Grand Patron, Dr. Josephine Akpua, alongside Executive Director Dr. Chike Akpua and President Mr. Ugo Akpua.
Built in honour of the late Samuel Akpua, the complex stands as a testament to the family’s enduring commitment to community development and philanthropy.
Equipped with modern medical facilities including a maternity ward, dialysis centre, diagnostic laboratories, and outpatient services, the hospital is expected to significantly address critical healthcare needs within Njikoka and neighbouring communities.
The commissioning ceremony, held on April 25, attracted top government officials, religious leaders, and community stakeholders, all of whom commended the Akpua family for their remarkable contribution to public health infrastructure in the state.
