The Anambra State Government has officially handed over a rehabilitated solar-powered borehole to the Umunze community in Orumba South Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to clean and potable water across the state.
The project, executed under the administration of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, was facilitated by the Anambra State Ministry of Power and Water Resources. It aligns with the government’s broader commitment to infrastructure renewal and sustainable development.

During the technical handover ceremony, the President General of Umunze Town, Engr. Iheazor represented by the Second President General, Mr. Godswill Chukwujekwu Anaebo expressed profound appreciation to the state government for its continued grassroots development initiatives.
He described the rehabilitation of the borehole as a vital intervention that will significantly improve water supply in the community.

Engr. Iheazor also commended the contractor for the successful execution of the project and appealed to the state government for further infrastructural development, particularly in road construction, noting that many roads in the area remain in poor condition.
Similarly, the Chairman of Lomu Village, Mr. Sopuruchukwu Okafor, lauded Governor Soludo for his developmental strides in Umunze, especially in water and road infrastructure. He also acknowledged the government’s efforts in regulating the activities of traditional practitioners in the state, saying that it has brought greater accountability and order to the sector.

In his remarks, the Director of Water Resources, Mr. Tochukwu Nwosu represented by the team leader for Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Mr. Adinnu Elias urged the community to ensure proper maintenance of the facility. He emphasized that responsible management would enhance sustainability and increase the likelihood of attracting additional government projects.
The event concluded with the formal signing of the handover documents by community representatives and ministry officials, marking the official transfer of the facility to the Umunze community.
