‎Academic activities and admission were in full swing at Community Secondary School, Okpuno, Awka, on Sept. 16, as parents accompanied their wards to the school for registration and admission into various classes.
‎
‎The development was observed when the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Mrs. Obiageli Chiegboka, who represented the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, visited the school as part of the Ministry’s monitoring exercise for the new academic session.
‎
‎At about 9:45 a.m., parents were seen queuing with their wards for admission, while returning students had commenced classes and were taking resumption tests.
‎

‎The Principal of the school, Lady Eucharia Osibe, said the school had recorded about 190 new enrolments since resumption on Sept 14, adding that more parents were still seeking admission for their children. Osibe said the school currently had about 72 teachers and that both students and staff had fully returned for the new academic session.
‎
‎She, however, identified inadequate classroom accommodation as the major challenge facing the school, noting that its status as the only public secondary school in the area had continued to attract a large number of students.
‎
The principal appealed to the State Government to complete the ongoing classroom block, which she said had been under construction for more than two years. According to her, completing the project would enable the school to accommodate more students seeking admission and ease pressure on the existing classrooms.

‎Osibe also appealed to the government to consider upgrading the school to a Smart School, saying the initiative would enhance teaching and learning while giving students greater access to modern educational facilities and technology.
‎
‎Interacting with the students, Chiegboka shared practical tips for effective study, including preparing a home study timetable, revising lessons taught in class and reading ahead of the teacher.
‎
‎She also advised the students to choose their friends carefully and associate with peers who would encourage them to remain focused on their studies. She further warned them about the dangers of drug abuse and urged them to stay away from illicit drugs.
