SAFE TRANSPORT, INCLUSIVE ABUJA: FROM DIALOGUE TO ACTION

The Network of Women with Disabilities, NWD, has participated in the Safe Transport, Inclusive Abuja Stakeholder Dialogue, focused on promoting safer, accessible and inclusive transportation systems for all commuters nationwide.
The stakeholder engagement brought together relevant partners to discuss transportation barriers affecting persons with disabilities and identify practical solutions capable of improving mobility, safety, accessibility and dignity for every commuter.
A major outcome was the presentation of a joint memorandum by Cedar Seed Foundation and the Young Persons with Disabilities Network, YPDN, highlighting systemic transportation challenges affecting persons with disabilities.
The memorandum called for stronger legislative action, improved accessibility standards and policies that would ensure transportation systems adequately respond to the needs and rights of persons with disabilities within Abuja.
The document was presented by Madam Lois Auta, Global President, Network of Women with Disabilities, on behalf of the partnership, reinforcing meaningful disability representation in policy discussions and legislation processes.
Speaking during the engagement, participants stressed that meaningful inclusion requires persons with disabilities to actively participate in policy discussions, decision-making processes and legislative development concerning transportation systems nationwide and effectively.
The dialogue provided an opportunity for stakeholders to move beyond consultations, encouraging concrete commitments that can translate concerns raised by persons with disabilities into measurable transportation reforms across Abuja.
The engagement further underscored the need for collaboration among government, civil society organisations and disability networks to develop transportation systems that are safer, accessible, inclusive, responsive, sustainable and equitable today.
The Network of Women with Disabilities reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive policies and ensuring that voices of persons with disabilities remain central to conversations shaping transportation and legislation nationwide.
