Residents of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State came out in large numbers on March 26 and 27 for the voter registration exercise held at the Ogbunike Town Hall, demonstrating renewed interest in the electoral process.

The two-day exercise, organized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), witnessed impressive participation from youths, women, and elderly citizens who queued patiently to either register for the first time or update their voter information.

INEC officials on ground ensured a smooth process, attending to registrants in an orderly manner despite the large turnout. Many participants described the exercise as timely, especially as preparations gradually begin toward future elections.

Speaking during the exercise, one of the registration officers noted that the turnout exceeded expectations, attributing it to increased voter awareness and community mobilization.

A first-time registrant, Master Chidera Oduche, expressed excitement after completing his registration.
“This is my first time registering, and I feel proud to finally have a say in choosing our leaders. The process was smooth, though we had to wait a bit.”

A community stakeholder, Chief Cyprian Agwuenu, commended INEC for bringing the exercise closer to the people.
“This is a welcome development. It encourages more people, especially our youths, to participate in governance. We urge everyone who is yet to register to take advantage of such opportunities.”

Mr. Dube Oguelina, another participant, highlighted the importance of civic responsibility:
“Your vote is your voice. If we don’t participate, we cannot complain about leadership. That’s why I came out today.”

The successful conduct of the voter registration exercise in Ogbunike reflects growing civic consciousness among residents. Stakeholders have continued to call for sustained voter education and improved logistics to ensure that every eligible citizen is captured in the electoral process.
