The Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Awka, Rev. Fr. Bernard Anaebonam, has called on Christians to place their complete trust in God, stressing that genuine faith requires total dependence on the Creator and unwavering obedience to His will.
Delivering his sermon on July 5, Fr. Anaebonam said Christian faith is not selective but demands wholehearted submission to God’s divine purpose in every aspect of life.
He warned against disobedience to God’s word, describing it as the root of humanity’s downfall since the time of Adam. According to him, true faith is expressed through surrendering one’s will to God, trusting Him in all circumstances, and recognizing that human strength alone is insufficient.
The cleric reminded the faithful that without God they can accomplish nothing, urging them to emulate a life of steadfast trust and humility. He added that entrance into God’s kingdom requires childlike dependence on the Lord rather than self-reliance.
Fr. Anaebonam lamented that modern society often promotes independence and self-sufficiency at the expense of faith, noting that such values conflict with the Christian call to rely on God. He maintained that lasting success and fulfillment come only through divine guidance.
He encouraged Christians to deepen their relationship with God through consistent prayer, regular study of the Holy Scriptures, and faithful obedience to God’s commandments, noting that these spiritual disciplines strengthen faith and dependence on the Creator.
The priest further urged parishioners to view life’s trials and challenges as opportunities to demonstrate their trust in God, encouraging them not to lose hope during difficult times but to see such experiences as tests that strengthen their faith.
