‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Hon. Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to poverty eradication, women’s empowerment and the protection of vulnerable families, describing safe homes and empowered families as essential to building a society where everyone can live with dignity and hope.
‎
‎Speaking to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, Onyekesi noted that poverty extends beyond a lack of money to include limited access to basic necessities, quality education, sustainable livelihoods and a secure family environment.
‎

‎She stressed that empowering women, strengthening families and protecting children and other vulnerable persons were crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty, building resilient communities and promoting inclusive development across Anambra State.
‎
‎The commissioner called on stakeholders, community leaders and residents to embrace collective responsibility in tackling poverty by supporting initiatives that improve living conditions, create economic opportunities and enable disadvantaged families to become self-reliant.
‎
‎She emphasised that vulnerable households must receive adequate support to overcome economic hardship, noting that poverty should not deprive individuals of their dignity, deny children access to education or prevent families from living in safe and decent homes.
‎
‎Onyekesi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to implementing social welfare programmes that promote the well-being of women, children and disadvantaged members of society, in line with the development agenda of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.
‎
‎She urged Ndi Anambra to work together towards building a society where families receive adequate support, women are empowered, children are protected and everyone has a fair opportunity to succeed.
‎
‎The commissioner maintained that eradicating poverty requires more than financial assistance, stressing the need for sustained empowerment initiatives, stronger family support systems and collective action to ensure that no vulnerable person is left behind.
