‎The Anambra State Police Command has condemned the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area, assuring that all those found responsible will face the full weight of the law.
‎
‎The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Sept. 14, following a report received on the evening of Sept. 13, concerning alleged child abuse and serious bodily injuries inflicted on the minor, identified as Oluebube Ofoma.
‎
‎According to the statement, the intervention of security personnel from Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi, alongside concerned residents, resulted in the rescue of the child and the arrest of her 32-year-old mother, Mrs. Ogechi Ofoma.
‎
‎Preliminary findings indicated that the seven-year-old was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, with reports that some of the injuries were inflicted using a hot knife.
‎
‎Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commenced collaboration with the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare to secure urgent medical attention, protection and necessary welfare support for the victim.
‎
‎The police command commended members of the Ibollo Community security team and other residents for their vigilance and prompt intervention, which it said helped rescue the child from further harm and facilitated immediate police action. The command assured members of the public that the investigation into the incident would be conducted thoroughly, professionally and without compromise.

‎It further stressed that the safety, welfare and best interests of the child remain its priority, adding that it would continue to collaborate with relevant government agencies and stakeholders to protect vulnerable persons and ensure that anyone found culpable is held accountable in accordance with the law.
