The Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), Anambra State Chapter, has strengthened its collaboration with key stakeholders by paying an advocacy visit to the Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Longinus Ogugua, at the State Secretariat, Awka.
According to a statement issued on July 21 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the delegation was led by the Traditional Ruler of Ifitedunu,
His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Ilouno. The delegation briefed the commissioner on the forthcoming official visit to Anambra State by the representative of the Inspector-General of Police and National Coordinator of POCACOV.
The visit is aimed at reinforcing efforts to combat cultism, substance abuse, cybercrime, bullying and other social vices through sustained engagement with students, teachers, parents and other critical stakeholders.
As part of the programme, the delegation disclosed that a series of activities have been scheduled, including advocacy visits to government institutions, sensitisation campaigns in schools, interactive sessions with students and youth groups, stakeholder engagements, media campaigns and community outreach programmes. The initiatives are designed to promote responsible citizenship, instill positive values and discourage criminal behaviour among young people.
Speaking during the visit, the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ogugua, commended the Nigeria Police Force and POCACOV for adopting a proactive and preventive approach to crime reduction.
He stressed the importance of education, awareness creation and youth empowerment in addressing the root causes of criminality and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with POCACOV to ensure the successful implementation of the programme across schools in the state.
The Anambra State POCACOV team expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the warm reception and pledged to sustain its collaboration with the Ministry of Education and other stakeholders in building a safer society where young people are empowered to make positive choices and contribute meaningfully to national development.
