The Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, Hon. John Elochukwu Igbem, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening market security, improving trading conditions and revitalising economic activities across the council area.
Igbem gave the assurance during a meeting with market chairmen in Oyi LGA, held at the Local Government Secretariat, Nteje, on November 4.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the mayor and market leaders to deliberate on challenges affecting commercial activities in the area and explore measures to address them while creating a more conducive environment for businesses to thrive.
The mayor assured the traders that his administration would prioritise improved market conditions and adequate security to boost traders’ confidence and encourage increased commercial activities, including on Mondays.
He further emphasised the need for effective communication and cooperation between the local government and market leadership, noting that the responsibility for achieving sustainable economic growth required collective commitment.
According to him, market leaders and traders must also play their respective roles in supporting government initiatives to ensure maximum productivity and the overall development of the local economy.
In their response, the market leaders commended the mayor for his economic development initiatives and expressed their readiness to support his administration in its efforts to improve commercial activities across the local government area.
