Orumba North Local Government Area(LGA) has earned national recognition following the conferment of the Best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria 2026 award on its Mayor, Capt. Barr. Casmir Chinonso Nwafor (Rtd), in recognition of his leadership and contributions to grassroots development.
The award was presented at the National Leadership Awards 2026, held on July 23 at the Nigerian Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, where outstanding public office holders from across the country were honoured for excellence in leadership and public service.

According to the organisers, Mayor Nwafor emerged as the recipient after the selection committee unanimously endorsed his nomination, citing his commitment to accountability, transparency and sustainable community development.
The organisers noted that his administration has complemented the development agenda of the Anambra State Government through projects and initiatives in infrastructure, security, agriculture, education, youth empowerment and institutional reforms, contributing to improved living standards in Orumba North.

They added that the National Leadership Award is reserved for public officials who have demonstrated integrity, outstanding performance and measurable impact in governance and community development.
Receiving the award, Mayor Nwafor expressed appreciation to the organisers, describing the honour as both a privilege and a motivation to deepen his commitment to public service.
He dedicated the award to the people of Orumba North, thanking them for their trust, cooperation and continued support, while reaffirming his resolve to sustain programmes that promote inclusive development and improve the welfare of residents.
The recognition highlights Orumba North’s growing profile in local governance, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen grassroots development and effective service delivery in Anambra State.
