The Executive Mayor of Orumba North Local Government Area, Captain Barr. Casmir Chukwunonso Nwafor, has pledged his administration’s continued support for senior citizens in the area, including backing for an upcoming free medical check-up programme.

The Mayor made the commitment on September 3, when he received the executive members of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP), Orumba North Chapter, during a courtesy visit to the Local Government Secretariat.

The delegation, led by the NUP Chapter Chairman, Mr. Ngozi Ileka, comprised the Vice Chairman, Chief Nweke Aaron Chukwuedozie; Secretary, Mr. Alloysius Okoli; Treasurer, Mrs. Okonkwo Henrietta, and other members of the union.

During the visit, the pensioners congratulated Mayor Nwafor on his successful second-term victory, describing his re-election as a reflection of the confidence and goodwill he enjoys among the people of Orumba North.

They also commended the Mayor for what they described as his administration’s developmental initiatives and interventions across the Local Government Area, while offering prayers for greater wisdom, strength, good health and divine protection as he continues in office.

The NUP leadership appealed to the Mayor to provide an office space for the union to facilitate its meetings, consultations and other activities.

They further sought the support of the Local Government for a forthcoming free medical check-up programme for senior citizens, which is scheduled to hold at the Local Government Secretariat.

Responding, Mayor Nwafor thanked the pensioners for their visit, prayers and goodwill, assuring them that their requests would receive favourable consideration.

He specifically pledged to provide office accommodation for the NUP and support the proposed free medical check-up programme.

The Mayor stressed the importance of prioritising the health and wellbeing of senior citizens, assuring the pensioners that his administration would remain committed to initiatives aimed at improving their welfare and helping them enjoy their retirement years with good health and dignity.
