‎The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has called for stronger collaboration with Women Development Officers (WDOs) across the state to advance women’s empowerment, enhance child protection and improve social welfare delivery.
‎
‎Onyekesi made the call on October 22 when a delegation of WDOs from various local government areas, led by Mrs Oby Gloria Nwosu, visited her office in Awka to congratulate her on her appointment.
‎

‎The commissioner stressed the importance of sustained cooperation between the ministry and the officers, noting that effective coordination was crucial to the successful implementation of government programmes designed to support women, children and other vulnerable groups.
‎
‎She appreciated the officers for their support and urged them to remain committed to their duties, particularly in ensuring that government interventions and welfare initiatives reach those who need them most.
‎
‎Onyekesi also highlighted the importance of grassroots engagement in identifying the needs of women and children and developing practical solutions to the challenges confronting them.
‎
‎She noted that WDOs played a vital role in bridging the gap between communities and the government by facilitating access to social welfare programmes and other support initiatives.
‎
‎Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mrs Oby Gloria Nwosu, commended the commissioner for her commitment to promoting women’s rights and advancing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of women and children across Anambra State.
‎
‎Nwosu emphasised the need for a strong working relationship between the ministry and WDOs, noting that a coordinated approach would enhance efforts to address the challenges facing women, children and other vulnerable members of society.
‎
‎She expressed confidence that closer cooperation between both parties would strengthen the implementation of programmes designed to empower women, protect children’s rights and improve social welfare services across the state.
‎
‎The visit ended with a shared commitment to deepen institutional collaboration and strengthen initiatives aimed at promoting women’s development, safeguarding children’s rights and improving the well-being of vulnerable persons throughout Anambra State.
