The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has assured a widow living in a makeshift shelter with her children at Umuodu, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area, of the state government’s commitment to their welfare and protection.
Onyekesi gave the assurance during a visit to the family following a pledge by Apostle Joel Agbata to build a house for the widow and her children.

The proposed intervention is expected to provide the family with safer accommodation and improve their living conditions.
The commissioner said the widow and her children would not be left to face their challenges alone, adding that the protection and welfare of vulnerable women and children remained a priority of the state government.
She called for collective efforts by government, religious organisations, philanthropists and other well meaning individuals to support vulnerable families.
Onyekesi reiterated the ministry’s commitment to protecting the rights of women and children, particularly those living in difficult conditions or exposed to neglect and other forms of vulnerability.
She urged individuals, faith based organisations, corporate bodies and other stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of widows, children and disadvantaged families.
The commissioner said collaboration between government and private individuals was essential to addressing the needs of vulnerable members of society.
The intervention highlights the role of partnerships between government and private individuals in providing support and improving the living conditions of disadvantaged families.
