Residents of Onitsha have lauded the Archbishop of the Onitsha Catholic Archdiocese, Most Rev. Valerian Maduka Okeke, for his remarkable act of charity in marking the Easter season with inmates at the Onitsha Correctional Centre.

In separate interviews, a cross-section of residents described the Archbishop as a deeply compassionate and exemplary leader, widely respected for his unwavering commitment to uplifting the poor and marginalized.

A trader, Mr. Michael Okoye, highlighted that Archbishop Okeke has made it a personal tradition to celebrate his birthdays with prison inmates, providing them with food items, toiletries, and other essential supplies. He noted that such gestures embody the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, whose death brought redemption to humanity.

According to him, the Archbishop’s consistent outreach has inspired a personal resolve to seek meaningful ways to support the less privileged within society.

Similarly, Mr. Uchenna Atuegwu described the Archbishop’s way of life as a profound reflection of Christ-like love, extended even to those often overlooked or forgotten. He remarked that the cleric’s example has deepened his appreciation for humility and service.

Also speaking, Mr. Dozie Maduka characterized the Archbishop’s generosity as both inspiring and worthy of emulation. He expressed concern that many affluent Christians limit Easter celebrations to family and social circles, often neglecting the needs of the vulnerable.

He, however, commended Archbishop Okeke for his inclusive spirit and called on Christians everywhere to follow his example by extending compassion to those in need.
