The Mayor of Onitsha North Local Government Area, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora, has urged residents to participate in the statewide environmental sanitation and drainage de-silting exercise scheduled for July 4.

In a public announcement, Mayor Nwora said the exercise would hold from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. across communities in Anambra State including Onitsha North.

He said the initiative was aimed at clearing blocked drainage channels, reducing flood risks during the rainy season and promoting a cleaner, healthier environment.

Hon. Nwora called on residents, community leaders, traders, youth groups and other stakeholders to clean their surroundings, de-silt gutters and avoid dumping refuse into drainage channels.

According to him, environmental sanitation is a shared responsibility and remains one of the most effective measures for preventing flooding, protecting public health and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of communities.

Nwora reaffirmed the commitment of the Onitsha North Local Government Administration to environmental sustainability and urged residents to make cleanliness a daily habit beyond the scheduled exercise.

He encouraged residents to turn out en masse for the exercise as part of collective efforts to keep Onitsha North clean, safe and flood free.
