ONITSHA NORTH MAYOR STRENGTHENS SECURITY TIES WITH 302 REGIMENT COMMANDER, CALLS FOR ENHANCED MILITARY SUPPORT

The Mayor of Onitsha North LGA, Hon. Nweze Tony Nwora has paid a courtesy visit to the Commander of the 302 Regiment Onitsha, Col. A.K. Mohammed, on Monday, February 3rd, 2025.
The strategic meeting, held at the headquarters of the 302 Regiment, focused on strengthening security collaboration between the local government and the Nigerian Army to tackle the growing security challenges in Onitsha North.
The Mayor reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free and peaceful environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
He emphasized the critical need for enhanced military presence and support in key areas within the local government.
He acknowledged the rising concerns over security threats, including incidents of armed robbery, kidnapping, street crime, and illegal trading activities, which have posed challenges to both the local economy and residents’ well-being.
The LGA boss stressed that Onitsha North, being a major commercial hub in Anambra State, attracts people from different parts of the country. As such, it is imperative to establish a strong security network to maintain law and order. He urged the Nigerian Army to intensify surveillance and patrols, particularly in crime-prone areas, to deter criminals and ensure the safety of residents.
Mayor Nwora further pointed out that his administration has been working closely with local vigilante groups, security agencies, and community leaders, but the support of the military is vital in achieving a sustainable security framework.
The Mayor also reiterated the Anambra State Government’s commitment to ensuring a safe and business-friendly environment, noting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has been making significant investments in security infrastructure across the state.
In his response, Col. A.K. Mohammed, the Commander of the 302 Regiment Onitsha, commended Mayor Nwora for his proactive leadership and genuine concern for the safety of his people. He acknowledged the importance of collaborative security efforts and assured the Mayor that the Nigerian Army remains fully committed to supporting the local government in maintaining peace and order.
Col. Mohammed emphasized that the military is ever-ready to assist in security operations, including joint patrols, intelligence sharing, and rapid response to security threats. He assured that the army will work hand in hand with other security agencies, including the police, civil defense, and local vigilante, to ensure maximum security in Onitsha North.
